Why do we use MFA?
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) at Agnes Scott is a layer of security to make it harder for a cyber attacker to access various campus resources and each user’s identity. All forms of MFA require at least two layers of authentication to access your account, the primary being your password and the secondary being some other form of verification. This can be either your personal cell number, work number for Faculty and Staff, or your personal non-ASC email.
What should I use for MFA?
The college is asking you to use the Microsoft Authenticator app as your default verification method. To ensure that you have access to MFA codes, you must load the app on your phone. This will allow you to receive codes if you are out of the country or in an area that has poor or no cellular or WiFi coverage.
How do I set up MFA?
If you have not yet set up MFA you will be prompted to when you next sign into your ASC email. Just follow the directions on the screen or you can use the instructions attached below.
If you need to add or change your Authentication method, please use this website: https://aka.ms/mfasetup . You will log in with your Agnes Scott account and you will be able to make changes to your MFA devices and methods. For step by step instructions, use the instructions attached below and go to the very bottom to the section titled: BONUS: To Add Additional Authentication Methods
I got a new phone and now MFA won't work?
If you recently got a new phone, either due to upgrading or replacing, or had to change phone numbers MFA through your device may be unavailable. This can be solve either by removing and re-adding your phone to your MFA devices and methods by signing in with a different MFA method or resetting MFA entirely on your account resetting everything back up.
To reset your MFA or if you have any issues logging in at all, please contact ASC ITS either at 404.471.5487 or email itshelp@agnesscott.edu or asc@personalsupportcenter.com.
